I looked at Pitt Tech today as well. What city are you in? I am outside of Calgary. I would like to use it on shelves, baseboard, casings and crown moulding. I think I am going to buy a gallon and give it a try.

I bought it in Toronto, for $40 a gallon.

I'm just a bit nervous about using an "industrial" paint, whatever that means. I couldn't find much info about prepping for this paint.

"DTM" means "direct to metal", BTW.

The label indicates that it's loaded with VOC's.

Hi again: I bought some today and tried it on some shelves for the kitchen pantry. For what its worth, I thought the Pitt Tech very runny to work with and I was working on horizontal shelves. Also, the odor was quite strong. It dried fast, and I was able to recoat within an hour or so. I put on 2 coats plus a primer. It did its job at drying rock hard. As shelves for my soup cans and such, it will be fine. I will not choose it for my trim work. Also krustytopp, if you are in Toronto, I emailed Cabinet Coat (the company that Michael and many others on this forum recommend) and they have three accounts in Canada, I believe all of these are in the Toronto Area. They are:

ICI:905-669-1020,
Color Your World: 416-221-5283,
Para/Sico: 905-792-5283

Let me know what you think of PittTech after you try it out.

Ycmom, thanks for the report on Pitt-Tech and the info on Cabinet Coat; I'll email the Canadian companies.

I'm going to start on the toekicks tonight--that way if the consistency is too difficult for me to work with, or if the color match was poor, no-one will notice the results.

It sounds as if you are OK with the fumes :) BTW, the fine print says "Not intended for residential use"!

Good luck with the toe kicks. They will end of tough as nails. This morning, there is still a slight odor in the pantry. I tolerated the odor because it was a short project. I have used the Canadian BM Satin Impervo in the past. It is a very smelly, oil product, but fantastic to work with and excellent results. However, because DH is currently in chemo treatment, I want to stay with a quick drying latex product. Michael has been invaluable in giving suggestions as to what paint to use. Unfortunately, the Canadian market doesn't supply most of them. What else is new.. If you don't mind me asking what does BTW stand for?

ycmom,

If you are near a Color Your World store, I recommend you try the Cabinet & Trim Melamine Finish. It's a similar product to Cabinet Coat, being urethane fortified and from what I gather in researching it, it's an ideal product for cabinets and trim.

BTW, there are a lot of quality paints in Canada.
